Jersey Goods & Services Tax (GST)
If you have any queries about the Jersey Goods and Service Tax please contact Customer Services.
Jersey is introducing a goods and service tax with effect from 1st May 2008.
This will apply to all goods and services and will be charged at an initial rate of 3%. The tax will be applied to almost all imports into the island of Jersey with very few exceptions.
This change will significantly alter the current requirements for imports to Jersey. We will submit manifest details to Jersey customs for those customers who use our services for the carriage of freight. Goods with a value exceeding the £#400.00 will be liable for GST.
The system will be set up to allow uninterrupted flow to approved importers or registered trader. An approved importer will be a company or sole trader who is registered for GST.
Goods which are consigned to a private individual or non-registered company with a value exceeding £400.00 will be detained until such time as the GST is paid.
Payment of GST is to be made by the importer. We do however envisage some disruption to the delivery of your consignments to those customer and individuals who are not registered for GST.
To enable us to complete the necessary import formalities in order that we comply with the customers directive, and in addition to the current data you supply, we will require an accurate description of goods together with the value for all shipments other than documents.
Please be assured we will be putting in a suitable framework to allow for the successful implementation of this change. It is however vital that you our customers provide us with the information to ensure the uninterrupted flow of goods.
