Carbon Offsetting

There's a problem we're facing

Between 1990 and 2005, emissions from aviation fuels from UK-based carriers more than doubled to 35.2MtCO² annually. The equivalent emissions from UK road transport was 440MtCO (Source : Defra - Figures converted from million tonnes of carbon to million tonnes of CO²).

We're contributing to it

Between 2006 and 2011, the express market, both within the UK and to international destinations, is expected to grow by 31% (Source : MBD). Within the UK alone, that means over 1.4 billion packages being delivered in 2011. International destination volumes are less than one fifth of this domestic figure, but they carry a far higher carbon footprint.

We want to do something about it.

A major study of large, global corporations' attitudes to climate change (Source : BBC News, Investors urge action on climate change, 24^th September 2007), released in 2007, concluded that most companies have come to realise that climate change is going to have a major impact on their business, and many of them also realise that there will be winners as well as losers. Many large firms are investing heavily to try to reduce their carbon footprint.

The government says it will cut carbon dioxide emissions by 60% between 1990 and 2050. It has promised to introduce a climate change bill, which will make this target legally binding.

We have created a way for you to do something about it

Now you can ensure the emissions from the delivery of your express packages and freight consignments are offset. We have launched an international delivery service designed to help our clients mitigate the impact of their delivery on the climate.

How do you use it?

The new Crossflight service allows its customers simply to opt-in to a carbon offset charge when they order a delivery, national or international. Developed in collaboration with independent organisation Climate Care, the system provides Crossflight customers with total transparency regarding the additional cost to achieve a full carbon offset. The offset charge is passed in full to Climate Care, who then invest those funds into their portfolio of carbon reduction projects.

Why have we done this?

Crossflight, known for a track-record of innovative logistics solutions, believe that the development of services of this offset scheme throughout the supply chain are critical if companies are to achieve their ambition of implementing environmentally responsible management of their carbon footprint. Transport and logistics are widely recognised as a significant contributor to carbon dioxide emissions, making this area a priority for remedial action.

What's in it for Crossflight?

Nothing, apart from helping our customers be better global citizens. We are independent. We are privately owned. We don't have to answer to shareholders for constant ramping up of profits. We are doing this because we believe in it. We do not get a single extra penny out of the process.

What will it cost me?

Offset charges on the new service from Crossflight are unlikely to cause a problem for finance managers. The surcharges typically range from 0.1% to 0.5% on carriage charges both nationally and internationally.
